Samsung SM951 M.2 PCIe SSD released

One thing that caught our attention during CES 2015 in Las Vegas was the launch of the Samsung SM951 M.2 PCI-Express SSD. This is the successor of the XP941 and the biggest changes reside in the switch to PCIe 3.0 x4 interface and support for NVMe. Unfortunately the SM951, similar to the XP941, will be an OEM-only product but it is possible that select resellers will carry the drive as a standalone unit.

Coming in capacities of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB the SM951 supports both PCIe 3.0 and PCIe 2.0 interfaces. The speeds are truly impressing with sequential speeds up to 1600MB/s read and 1350MB/s write and random performance of 130.000 IOPS read and 85.000 IOPS write when connected to PCI-Express 2.0 interface. If you have PCI-Express 3.0 connectivity then the speeds go up to 2150MB/s read and 1550MB/s write.

The price wasn’t disclosed yet but the drive is already shipping to all the major OEMs.
